Trailer Heaven

Yesterday I died and went to trailer Heaven.

I have gone to a few gatherings of trailer lovers and it is always a good time with great trailers.  But yesterday I went to the2014 Roslyn Washington Rally and was blown away by the fabulous trailers. 
 

The Holiday House is a Trailer revered and loved by most trailer enthusiast as a classic unlike any other.

Some of the mobile mansions were complete restorations done by professional restorers.  

The organizers of this years rally, Brian and Melissa Morrow brought their baby.....to the rally.  The outside may not have all the polish as yet, but their Westwood has a lodge vibe that oozes coziness.

    




I would love to cuddle up with a throw blanket and a good book... just call me a happy camper.

Another professional restoration done by Flyte Camp of Bend Oregon, surpassed the original design with modern opulence that was pure eye candy.  Incorporating modern design and convenience makes this completed Westwood Coronado a party palace.

 Under the mattress in the bedroom in a fully enclosed bathtub.  Pull into your favorite RV Resort and FEEL the luxury.

This counter top contains a icebox bar and flip down table for your party beverages.

This RV mansion was recently featured on Extreme RV's on the travel channel.

 I could do some serious cooking in this kitchen.

Another restoration that I was impressed by was a tent trailer like no other I have ever seen.

The Pride in these trailers shows with every detail. 

Many others trailers were back yard restorations and renovations done to perfection with love and care that the owners lavished on their little play houses.  The next post will include many decorated from head to toe.

A Train's Whistle Blows From the Past

 On Tuesday, I took my sweet little Lolita in for a physical to Les Swabb.   Now, I have been putting a lot of miles on Lolita and I believe in safety first so in she goes.  I had heard a little squeak with the wheel rotation and wanted it checked out.  A phone call a bit later was full of bad news.  A badly bent axle and slaughtered tires.

 Parts for 42 year old trailers is not something you find at your Camping World or your local Tire Store.  The axle is not something that is used on trailers today so the manager at my local tire store spent several days calling different companies to get as many options as possible all that will require waiting for the axle to be shipped to our location.   It is looking like it will be a week before the axle will be delivered.  Our plans to take Lolita to attend a vintage trailer rally 200 miles away in Roslyn, Washington seem out of the question.

As is the case for many vintage trailers, Lolita sits low to the ground so we are looking at options that will give a higher clearance since we KNOW I don't always stay on paved highways.  Today, Friday  Jeff called with news that he found another axle that is more heavy duty and will raise the clearance by four inches and it will be in the store by Monday.

 As the week wore on, I felt less and less willing to miss the rally.  It was clear that Lolita would not be going to the ralley but why not us?  I do have a tent or there are other places to stay in the area. And what an opportunity to visit with other vintage trailer owners AND view their sweet little homes on wheels.

We loaded the truck with food, water and tent supplies and headed out not knowing if we would tent or stay in a motel.   Without reservations, and with rain and chilly weather in the forecast we headed out and would decide later in the afternoon where we would stay.

Driving through rain and wind it became clear that we would be looking for a place to stay that had heat and a warm bed.  My preference would be to stay in Roslyn  within walking distance of the rally or  nearby Cle Elum, a short a 4 miles away, with Ellenburg, (21 miles further as a back up plan).  A short drive around Roslyn showed nothing available so we headed to Cle Elum.  I had heard of a  B and B that had been a Bunkhouse for train personnel who traveled on the old railroad lines.  I checked it out and we took one of their last rooms.  With the university graduation in Ellensburg on Saturday, it was one of the few rooms available in the entire area.

 

The warm welcome from the owners indicated this to be a wonderful place to call home for the night and indeed it was.  The previous home for many railroaders it is filled will railroad memorabilia and is something like spending the night in a museum.

Touring one of The B&B Cabooses

 Cle Elum is a sleepy western town of 1800 people that was built around the advance of railroad  being built in the early 1900's, (1906-1909)  making the railroad a transcontinental line.  The discovery of coal in the mountains around Cle Elum ensured the success of the town as a railroad hub into the future.

A short walk from the Iron Horse B&B leads to the grounds of the old Railyard where a historical walk with informational markers tell the story of railroads history.

 Our room was a tribute to John Johnson a Locomotive Fireman who retired in 1958 after many years of service on the Miwaukee and Pacific Railroad.  An immigrant from Sweden, the room included copies of many items personal of the railroad man who stayed in this very room on occasion.
 

Our room had a double bed plus a single for $89 including a yummy breakfast.

Reflections from a Girl Camping Weekend

Sometimes I find myself boxed into a corner of my own design.

Doing what I have always done.  

These last few months when my life plan for full time travel has altered for a while, I have been using the time to rethink what day to day life looks like while I take care of family business.  I have clearly determined I will continue to seek time in nature and travel is a priority.  Having FUN is a must!   

While I have always considered myself somewhat of a loner and not particularly outgoing,  I don't consider these attributes a bad thing.  It is more like finding my own zone and making sure that I have enough balance between quiet time and social time. 

Then in a moment of  new clarity... I break out of sameness of self-imposed predictability

 and try something new.

Challenging Some 'Ole Thinkin' Patterns.

This weekend adventure allowed me to rethink some old ways of how I spend some of my time and meet my emotional  needs.

I have been thinking how as I've  gotting older, I have made mental lists of the places to go and things I have want to do while I am able.   However, it is often the little changes in how life is lived that reap the most satisfying rewards.  When I was still working and raising children I struggled to find enough alone time to recharge my internal batteries.  As, I find myself retired with much more solo time, I have also found myself desiring more social connection time.

This weekend adventure allowed me to rethink some old ways of how I spend some of my time and meet my emotional  needs.

Camp Fire Laughs and Fun

 So for this weekend I choose to push my comfort zone a little and challenge the way I think and operate.  Don't worry, I'm not changing myself to be someone else.... just pushing the edges a bit.

Yep, ME shopping.

I discovered I have just been shopping at the WRONG places.

I am a junk shopper at heart!

I even found a vintage trailer as a shop!

There was plenty of time for nature

 

There is no pressure to participate
in activities.
      The gals encourage.....
             Do what makes you happy.

And of course there has been plenty of Trailer Time.
The gals have been very open and willing to show off their little doll houses.

Once in a while I find a setting that can combine both quiet time and social time.

Some of the trailers are simply adorned others are elaborate.  But they are all fun and an extension of their owners.

 

Most of all the trailers represent the fun and humor these gals share.

While there is are a few rules (no husbands, kids, or pets) there are plenty of informal get togethers to share in the fun where the informal group decide how it will go .  I look forward to occasionally meeting up with some of the gals and s t r e t c h i n g a little farther.
   

Sometimes things turn out differently than ever imagined. 

 And that can be a good thing.
