Straddling Two Worlds

It's time to post when followers comment on your blog to check if you are OK.  Yep I'm fine , just finding myself without a lot of noteworthy things to say...  It does amaze me when I realize that some followers leap beyond the pages to become a support network and even friends.  I never imagined that followers would still hang around if I wasn't on the road full time.  I'm so appreciative of your support.

Before the holidays I left you as I was straddled with one foot remaining in full time mode and the other with roots planted in Spokane.

In full time mode I am ever poised, watching the weather for a break that allows me some soul refilling outdoor time.  But alas, it is winter here and outdoor time for me at least is fleeting.  Icy roads have limited outdoor excursions but sunny sky's beckon me with the promise of the days to come.  Outdoor walks have become infrequent and the high calorie treats of the holiday have come home to roost.  I detest the idea of living my life on hold until I am able to fit in some travel time which leads to unsettled feelings.  But at the same time I feel unable (unwilling?) to build a stationary life.

How long can I bed down in the family room without defined space to call home.  At these moments I have found myself perusing the want adds looking a small little houses that I could use as a home base during the winter months and a launch pad during the fair weather non-school months.  Yet, I do NOT want to be tied financially and problematically to a home that I will eventually need to divest of in order to travel. (I just did that and it was hard!)

Wander lust prevails and I find myself  thinking about how far away I can go over Spring Break....

I hate the idea of putting my desires out to the universe as it almost dares fate to mess with my ideas. but I'm thinking Utah sounds like a great place to get away to....

Utah was one of my original desired destinations.  I believe I could loose myself in Utah for quite some time.  I hate whirlwind travel so I am more likely to set up the trailer in one or two basecamps and explore around those areas.

While two weeks is not long enough, it just might tide me over until warmer weather.  I'm looking forward to March when the trailer will come out of storage and I can get it ready for road travel.

Now to get through a couple of ugly months until the weather begins to turn.  I guess that is the best time for dreaming and ordering travel maps and materials. I am definetely wanting to spend a couple of days at Antelope Island and time around Moab.

So what are your NOT TO BE MISSED spots in Utah?

  1. I think if most of us had to have noteworthy things to blog about every time we blogged we'd have to fold up shop. Whatever you are doing now in your life may seem boring to you but likely not to your blog readers. As for Utah, oh my goodness, I could spend 4 months in Utah and still not feel that I had adequately seen, the Grand Canyon, Arches and Canyonlands and Capitol Reef National Parks, Bryce and Zion National Parks, Momument Valley, the Four Corners...............................

    1. Thanks Sherry. Due to limit of time I won't be able to hit all of the parks, but I would like to hit a few of the parks in the central and northern parts of Utah and see them well.

  2. My favorite is Bryce Canyon NP. :) Might be a little cold and snowy at spring break time, but that adds to the beauty.

    1. The good news is my heater works really well. I just pray for roads without ice!

  3. Our favorite is Zion NP, but we like the Moab area, too. You can't go wrong anywhere in southern Utah!

  4. I could have written this post. My daughter became pregnant exactly one year after I started fulltiming. Since it was a high risk pregnany I decided to stay near her. I am still living in my RV but had considered a home base and buying a car. I am babysitting 4 days a week while they adjust to living in a new state with a newborn and new jobs. But I have a summer job lined up and will be leaving for several months. I guess I will find out if I still want to wander or if I want to continue to help them out. I am anxious to get on the road right now. If you go the Bryce don't miss the nearby Kodachrome State Park.

    1. Teri, I have for so long felt like I was the only one. Silly ME! No matter how you look at it, it is a loss and an adjustment must be made. It is all a matter of looking at the options and into the mirror and deciding what can be lived with. I am also careful to not overstate what is needed of me, while I am needed for now, the need will change as others go on with their lives. I must remind myself this is the only life I have..... I must live it!!

  5. I'm fmor Colorado, but I've lived in southeast Utah for a good 20 years or more. You could spend a lifetime and not even touch the surface of all the things to see and hikes to take there.

  6. Loved this post, as it is where I am now also. This drab weather really gets me down and since I hurt my back, I can't really get out and walk or snowshoe. I am trying to figure out how to get out of there in the winter. But a big house and pets keeps me here...humm. I just might have to get my trailer out of storage early this year.

    Keep posting.

  7. When we were staying in St. George we took "the back door" into the Grand Canyon ... Tuweep.

It was AWESOME ... fantastic views, hardly any other people ... just your kind of trip ... it necessitates a long drive on gravel/dirt roads & you get to pass next to Colorado City, AZ where all that polygamist stuff took place a few yrs ago ... it's a fun road trip. We did it in a day & were back in St. George in time to go out for dinner.
The route we took wasn't too bad, we had a rented Rav4 - no 4X4 - and we had no problems.

  8. I haven't been to the North entrance.... I will have to see if I can fit it in. So much to see and experience, so little time.

  9. So glad to see you post. I think lots of us are in your shoes right now.
I haven't been on a trip since the end of Sept. So many obligations since then. My daughters wedding, Thanksgiving and then Christmas. For my New Years start I got sick. I don't remember ever being that sick. I am now better but still don't have all of my voice back.

There have been days when I didn't blog for lack of something to put down. I was talking to Gypsy and she said just don't wait to long people worry. She is so right. I was really worrying about you. So even if you don't have much to report just let us know all is well in your corner of the world.

We will soon see sunshine again and even day trips seem like life savers.
Of course you have the icy roads to deal with maybe a luncheon date with a friend or your Auntie while granddaughter is in school. Maybe organize a Tea for some Church Ladies. It doesn't have to be a big deal but I bet they might enjoy a winter break also.
Hope we have all lifted your spirits some. :)

  10. Indeed you have. It amazes me to realize that the encouragement and contact with each of you has come to mean so much to me. I hope you are starting to feel stronger now and able to enjoy what each day brings. Thanks my friend!

  11. Utah is one of my favorite States & wished we could spend more time there. Have been to Moab, Bryce, & Zion a couple times & loved it. Took a quick trip from Utah to the north side of the Grand Canyon a couple times as well & liked it better than the south rim. Fewer people at the north rim. I know well the feeling of being stuck inside during winter weather & I dread the day when we will once again have to endure that. I think it is harder on a person who has once traveled the winter months in warm exciting scenic climates. And I remember those long days waiting for Spring. It was the only hope it seemed but what a marvelous feeling it was those first few sunny days with snow melting & temperatures going up. Spring tonic indeed:))
