Dang it all!!

Well wishing it so, doesn't make it true....

My ankle is not any better so off I go to the doctor today.  The news isn't all bad....I didn't break my butt!  But I did break my ankle.  The young thing asked me if I have osteoporosis.  Isn't that just about the same as asking me if I'm old!!  They were still not able to cast it as there is still too much swelling but they put molded a splint on it and took away my cane and put me on crutches!   The splint hurts more than hobbling on it with nothing but the cane. And to top that off,  I am certainly an accident waiting to happen on crutches.

So now I am laying here plotting how I will get the hay to the animals, feeling sorry for myself and again wondering if I will truly be able to take care of my self  here or on the road!!   Guess I sound like a pity party so I think I will call it a night and hope for brighter tomorrow.  Over and Ouch!

  1. Well this is a drag. Yet it seems like you are taking care of yourself. Got a wagon to haul hay?

  2. Well that sucks. Sorry to hear you broke your ankle. Please be extra-special careful now on those crutches.

Do you have to elevate and ice it?

That does not sound fun at all.

  3. Oh gheez that stinks! ICE indeed and keeping it way above your heart to lower the swelling and speed healing! Hope you can come up with a solution to stay more mobile as it heals!!

  4. Geez, I'm glad you went to the doctor! Stay off it as much as possible, is there anyone you can call to help with the animals? Family, neighbors, maybe an animal group of some kind?
I don't know if you're old enough, but I'll bet a senior center or even high school kids would help out for a week or two if you call a few schools.
We are NEVER alone - there are always people nearby who would love to help out. Makes them feel good and helps us out: win-win. Don't be afraid to ask. Good luck. :)

  5. I'm sorry about your ankle. I agree with Me and My Dog though. We are never alone...even when we feel like we are. From what I've seen in most of the RV parks that we've been in, there is always someone who is willing, and usually wants to, help others. I think it comes from being retired but not knowing how to act retired that makes them helpers. Don't be afraid to ask. Good luck. I wish I lived closer so that we could help you out.

  6. Been there and done that so I know just how you feel and it definitely sucks. First time (notice I said first) I broke mine I did the same thing as you. I thought it was just a sprain and I hobbled around and it got worse and swelled and all kinds of stuff.

So finally went to the doctor. If they cast yours or boot you, be sure that you try not to over compensate and affect your opposite hip. I had more troubles with my tendons and ligiments than I did with the break. It healed fine but it was nearly a year before the others did.

Second time I knew better and refused the boot. Keep us posted, I want to see what they do and which bone you broke. Hope it wasn't that little end at the bottom of your fibula. That sucker never heals right.

    Wishing you the best.

  7. That's not good news. My BIL broke his ankle several weeks ago, had a cast and was wheel chair bound. BUT, he got his cast off today and is in a boot and doing so much better. Hope you heal quickly and please try and not let this trouble get you down too much. It must be terribly hard to go through this on your own, but I agree with Barbara, ask for help. You have done much in the past to help others. Let them give back to you.

  8. Good thing you went in to have it checked. You will be able to take care of yourself no matter where you go we just get into a little trouble now and then. Hope you can find some one to take on the animals for a week or 2. Heal well that is the important thing.
