It has been so long since I have been out walking I decided that I really needed a nature fix so I choose a trail along the river not far from where I live.
I drove through some seedy sections of town to get there but the views and proximity to city and nature make it a desirable destination. I locked my truck and (armed with my whistle and cell phone and camera) I headed out for a brisk walk. I did not need to worry. I found the trail to be very a popular spot with plenty of people embracing the wonderful day.
Does anyone know what kind of bike this is? He certainly seemed to enjoy himself but it looked like a lot of work to me especially when going up hill.

Due to careful planning, everyone will have access and have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful area into the future.
Some of the wildness will be lost as the condo's densely occupy the space but the green space along the river will be preserved.
The closer you get to the city,
the better the views.
Across the river is another area of Spokane called Browne's Addition. The big buildings you see contain the Museum and Campbell house that we visited last Fall.
Looking again to the East, is Riverfront Park. It was the site of the 1974 Exposition known as the World's Fair. The clock tower on the right and the tent like structure shown in the center remain in the park which is the anchor of the downtown area.
The Expo began a city center rejuvenation that continues modernizing the downtown area.
Evening casts a different glow to the familiar site as the lights begin to twinkle.
It was a good day.....

One day it won't seem so open. I'm sure that it will loose some of it's charm when the business of people and their things replace the peaceful and uncluttered feeling of nature. I like the feeling that I can reach out to 'touch' the city but from a distance and still be in nature.
DeleteIt is a good time to take stock and plan for travel days. I walk a lot and usually strike out along the paths near the Columbia River. Today I walked through the park near our home and saw an enormous beaver dam. Thanks for showing us a bit of Spokane.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see you getting out. Love that first river picture. Those bikes are called segways. Looks like work to me too but then regular biking up any hill is work.
ReplyDeleteSherry, That's a Trikke Bike not a Segway. Trikke Bikes are for rent down on our bike path in St. Monica (CA). Yeah, lots of work, all right even on our level beach paths. The Segway has two wheels connected by a platform on which you stand and lean forward to make the Segway roll. It's the one that Geo Bush managed to fall off of.

ReplyDeleteOne of the things I did that day was look at that same beautiful moon. Your full moon photo is beautiful!
I took photos, too. I swear, if I took all the full moon photos I've taken and put them in a row, they'd probably look exactly the same, but I still run out with my camera every month. :)
I feel the same way about the full moon. Sunsets, and the moon, I think it is the overwhelming beauty that catches me every time as if I am seeing it for the first time. I so want to capture that special quality....and it never quite captures on film in the same way. So I try again and again.
