Clearly they may not be the destinations anyone else would choose nor represent the vast variety that is across the breadth of our diverse country....but it covers many big ones. To see everything would take a lifetime.....For a shorter time frame this seems to be a more reasonable road route.

I find this fascinating as I am researching for a cross country trip this summer. While I'm not looking to hit all 48 states, I am looking at what sights (and areas) do I want to add to our itinerary.
I'm thinking at this point we will not do into the deep south (will do another time) but heading across the picking up and traveling parts of Route 66 through the middle section of the country with a few zigs and zags. I will also save most of the southwest and California for another dedicated trip.
Last summer we dedicated 2 1/2 months to seeing Washington State. There were so many awesome destinations we saw and yet so much yet to explore. I would be hard pressed to choose just one destination for Washington....but I am sure that it would not be the Hanford Site......
There are so many great spots along the way....I couldn't bear to spend a few short hours in each state or location.....so hard choices have to be made.
You are right to avoid the Deep South in the summer. The heat and humidity are brutal. For your D.C. stops, add the U.S. Postal Museum. It sounds rather dull but is one of the best museums of any sort I've ever visited.
ReplyDeleteBoy I can think of a lot of more interesting spots in many of those states. I sure wouldn't pick that spot in Florida for instance. And I don't see how you could do this in even 2 or 3 months unless you spent only an over night in each place. How could anyone do that in Yellowstone for instance which takes a month by itself to really see. We have 6 states yet to go including the Pacific Northwest states and it's taken us 5 years to do that and still we have felt that we have short changed most of the states we've been in. Your staying 2.5 months in one state is more the time frame I like. Good luck with your cross country trip in your new wonderful camper.
ReplyDeleteYour new plan says a lot and you will figure out where to go or not to go before you leave. Like Gypsy On The Road Again) was saying tonight all plans are in Jello. I want to go over more of Route 66 myself this summer.
